The Editors Canada President's Award for Volunteer Service recognizes outstanding service to the organization by member volunteers. In June 2020, I received the award along with five other Canadian editors.
I write a monthly advice column at UniversityAffairs.ca called "Ask Dr. Editor." Through this column, I respond to the writing questions of academics in Canada, relating the finer details of their queries to broader issues of academic communication and knowledge dissemination.
I am leading the development and evaluation of five-day writing retreats for graduate students at UBC, a project funded through UBC's Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund.
In May 2018, I attended the Editors Canada conference in Saskatoon, where I received the Claudette Upton Scholarship -- the national editing award for emerging editors.
As the bulk of my editing focuses on grant applications, most of the texts that I edit are confidential, read only by an audience of between three and twelve people. However, some of my editing work has been published, from peer reviewed journal articles to book chapters and graduate student theses.
Since completing my PhD in 2015, I have supplemented my academic experience by pursuing continuing education courses to improve my skills as an academic editor.
As a Research Grants Facilitator in the UBC Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, I help researchers to articulate their goals to an audience of their peers. In my first 2.5 years in this role, I have coordinated 45 successful grants totaling ~$3M.
I developed and edited Volume 54, Number 4, of the journal Victorian Poetry. This special issue investigates one of the most collected and categorized poetic genres of the Victorian period: the ballad.
