Curriculum Development, ePortfolio Initiative, UBC Arts

Working in Curriculum Development for the UBC Faculty of Arts ePortfolio Initiative, I help faculty members to integrate online portfolios into courses and programs, and coach students as they collect and curate their work for the web.

Day-to-day, I work with instructors to co-design assignments and assessment schemes, and support students as they identify and articulate their learning and career goals.

The big picture of my role in this initiative is to shift the culture within the Faculty of Arts, making portfolios a norm--as they are in, for instance, Education. This cultural shift involves generating intrinsic motivation within the student body.

My long-term goals are to have the online portfolio be seen as:

  • a place for students to synthesize the big picture themes that run through the 40+ courses they take in their degree; and
  • a site where students can define and display their accomplishments for an outside audience, from potential employers or clients to grant-makers or patrons.
